For hardworking mornings and late nights out, they came to the fore as highly graphic objects; their development called for the work of a couturier, involving drawings, adjustments and fittings. A number of designers and couturiers came to him for their ranges of glasses. Disregarding both the fashionable and the unfashionable, Alain Mikli stands his ground; these are no longer the invisible glasses of the 1990s. He reaffirms glasses as the essential complement to the personality, adorning the facial expression, and talks about feeling a frame.My creation has become more fluid. I explain feelings to the people in my workshops, I give them tactile data, is how Alain Mikli puts it nowadays; he feels that glasses are primarily a form of self-affirmation. Now the mastery of his craft adds a new dimension - ergonomics - to these formal convictions. The gradual curve of the temples, the outward bend of their ends and the smoothly rounded curves at the ear reflect this intimate relationship with the face. What is making me progress, Alain Mikli adds, is technology. Now I can take my ideas through to their conclusion, with a perfect balance between the side-pieces, the front, and the sides. Hollowed out, curved, shaped, polished like a pebble, with an inward slope, facetted and fin-shaped, the side-pieces become tactile objects -sculptures, even - in his eye and in his hand.TECHNICAL INFORMATIONTemple Design [plastic frames]: The refinement and creation is up to the end of the temples. Shaped, polished, worked on, sometimes aggressive, sometimes sensual, round, always different, the temples become a very tactile object which we want to touch to really feel and appreciate its texture and work. The temple is curved over its full length starting from the point where it is joined to the front-piece. The curve of the temple is fully rounded over the ear in order to facilitate the adjustment process. The very tip of the temple is turned outwards so that it does not exert unnecessary pressure on the petrosal bone. Frames Arms [plastic frames]: All the frame arms in the Alain Mikli collection are notched. Since November 1993, we have been developing and patented this innovation. The advantage of this design is that it prevents the acetate from receding from the arm edge. For hardworking mornings and late nights out, they came to the fore as highly graphic objects; their development called for the work of a couturier, involving drawings, adjustments and fittings. A number of designers and couturiers came to him for their ranges of glasses. Disregarding both the fashionable and the unfashionable, Alain Mikli stands his ground; these are no longer the invisible glasses of the 1990s. He reaffirms glasses as the essential complement to the personality, adorning the facial expression, and talks about feeling a frame.My creation has become more fluid. I explain feelings to the people in my workshops, I give them tactile data, is how Alain Mikli puts it nowadays; he feels that glasses are primarily a form of self-affirmation. Now the mastery of his craft adds a new dimension - ergonomics - to these formal convictions. The gradual curve of the temples, the outward bend of their ends and the smoothly rounded curves at the ear reflect this intimate relationship with the face. What is making me progress, Alain Mikli adds, is technology. Now I can take my ideas through to their conclusion, with a perfect balance between the side-pieces, the front, and the sides. Hollowed out, curved, shaped, polished like a pebble, with an inward slope, facetted and fin-shaped, the side-pieces become tactile objects -sculptures, even - in his eye and in his hand.TECHNICAL INFORMATIONTemple Design [plastic frames]: The refinement and creation is up to the end of the temples. Shaped, polished, worked on, sometimes aggressive, sometimes sensual, round, always different, the temples become a very tactile object which we want to touch to really feel and appreciate its texture and work. The temple is curved over its full length starting from the point where it is joined to the front-piece. The curve of the temple is fully rounded over the ear in order to facilitate the adjustment process. The very tip of the temple is turned outwards so that it does not exert unnecessary pressure on the petrosal bone. Frames Arms [plastic frames]: All the frame arms in the Alain Mikli collection are notched. Since November 1993, we have been developing and patented this innovation. The advantage of this design is that it prevents the acetate from receding from the arm edge.
